If your Xfinity modem is blinking green your internet connection is unstable. It could be momentarily wonky or there could be something else going on. You probably didn’t cause this and chances are good that the signal stability will resolve on its own. It can be very stressful especially if for example you have an online meeting starting in a few minutes or were making travel reservations where the deal expires momentarily. In such cases you might want to use your cell phone to connect to an available signal for now.

Best case scenario: you are setting up your equipment for the first time and the light blinks while it establishes a connection. Or, you are reconnecting after an outage. Within a few minutes the light should resolve to a solid signal.

Not the best scenarios but not in your control, either: There is a network outage in your area. Ideally if this is the case you already got a text from Xfinity informing you that (a) they know about it; and (b) have people working on it. Sometimes this is planned maintenance and, in such cases, Xfinity should notify you up front.

Other reasons for the blinking light could be that your equipment hasn’t had a recent firmware update. Or there could potentially be a problem with the cables. Finally, you may simply have overloaded your device by having too many other devices online at once. With the multi-gig Xfinity plans this should never happen but other plan types may have bandwidth limits that can trigger an overload. Try taking a few of the other devices offline and see if the issue is resolved.

If you can use your phone to search for an Xfinity outage map you might be able to confirm an outage without calling Customer Service. If there’s no outage reported, search on your phone’s web browser for the Xfinity Support page and start a chat with the service bot that will pop up 24/7. You can report the blinking green light and get support through the chat.

If you prefer to call customer service the hours are Monday-Saturday, 7 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. The number is 1-800-Xfinity, which is 1-800-934-6489. Save the Customer Service number 1-800-934-6489 to your contacts. Choose the option for equipment trouble. The average hold time is under 5 minutes. If you have the luxury of picking a time to call 2 p.m. is when volumes are low under normal circumstances.

Xfinity Customer Service tech support can remote into your setup to help identify the issue and troubleshoot it. They can walk you through a restart. The systems are designed to not require frequent visits from technicians but if you’ve had a bad storm or had construction damage impacting your connection then the technician will get it resolved. Hopefully until then you can access public Wi-Fi at a nearby location for your most urgent online tasks.
