HOW TO WATCH PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY DEBATES 2023

On Tuesday, November 5, 2024 the next U.S. presidential election will take place. Voters will cast ballots for President and Vice President as well as for many others elected offices. The winning President and Vice-President will be sworn in on January 20th, 2025 in Washington, D.C. for a four-year term.

States will hold presidential primary elections through June 2024 to determine which Republican candidate will go head-to-head with Democratic incumbent Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. The Republican National Convention will formally announce its party’s presidential candidate in July. The leading Republican candidate and presumably sitting president Joseph Biden will debate on October 9, 2024 in the General Election presidential debate at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

A few things we can count on: mud will be slung in all directions and politicians and the media will stir votes into an emotional froth before, during and after the election. Whether this excites you or gives you indigestion is up to you. One thing is for sure: it’s going to be hard to ignore the coverage and in fact some of it may be quite informative.

Among the most important ways you can evaluate candidates is via a nationally televised presidential primary debate. As of this writing the schedule looks like this:

Mark the Date: December 6, 2023 for the 4th Republican Presidential Primary Debate

December 6, 2023 Republican Presidential Primary Debate. It will be the fourth Republican presidential primary debate for the 2024 election and will take place in Tuscaloosa, AL. The first, second and third Republican primary debates have already occurred.

Fox News Carried the First Primary Debate in August 2023 The first Republican primary debate of 2023 aired on Fox News. Fox News is widely available across various cable, satellite, and live TV streaming services. Republican National Committee chairwoman, Ronna McDaniel, previously announced that the first 2024 Republican presidential debate would be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Wednesday, August 23. This debate, titled "Fox News Republican Primary Debate with Partners Young America’s Foundation and Rumble," was televised on Fox News and live streamed on the social media platform Rumble.

The second debate was held September 27 and was hosted by FOX Business and Univision. The third was held on November 8 and was hosted by NBC News. The candidates that survived through the third debate were Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, Christ Christie and Time Scott. Donald Trump is running for the third time and has to this point avoided the debates. The other Republican candidates need the exposure but Trump does not. His presence on the debate stage could remind voters that when he won the election in 2016, Republicans did not cry foul but when he lost in 2020, many Republicans said the election was stolen, and a riot ensued resulting in the death of 5 people and injuries to 138 police officers. It’s unclear how this would impact undecided voters. While contenders might welcome the chance to spar with Trump, they also might prefer to distance themselves from a riot with vivid screams of “Hang Mike Pence!” the sitting Republican U.S. Vice President who certified the 2020 election results.

NewsNation will host the fourth Republican Presidential Primary Debate on December 6, 2023 in Tuscaloosa AL. It will air live from 8-10 p.m. on the CW and on local NewsNation stations. You can use the NewsNation Channel Finder app to locate the NewsNation TV station in your market. NewsNation was previously known as WGN America. The debate will take place live at the University of Alabama's Frank Moody Music Building in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Moderators for the event include Megyn Kelly, a former Fox News anchor, Elizabeth Vargas, an anchor from NewsNation, and Eliana Johnson, the editor-in-chief of the Washington Free Beacon.

2024 Election Season: An Unusual Year

As we approach the 2024 presidential election, a diverse group of Republican candidates is vying for the nomination. Notable contenders include former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The upcoming debate season promises to be eventful, although it's uncertain if either Trump or DeSantis will participate in the final debate.

On the Democratic side, there are currently no scheduled debates for potential challengers to President Joe Biden. It's worth noting that sitting U.S. presidents have not participated in election debates since the 1970s. However, given the current political climate, this might change.
