The Dawn of Viasat

Exede had its beginning in 2012. It was launched to serve rural areas around the United States with the internet services previously unavailable to them. Exede ran off of the Guinness World Record-holding satellite, Viasat-1, which was the world’s highest capacity communications satellite at the time.

2017 was a big year for Exede. They furthered their technological arsenal by launching Viasat-2 and decided to rebrand, adopting their current name, Viasat. The Exede name (and the former WildBlue one) were retired. Under this new name, Viasat now reaches over 600,000 Americans in all 50 states, and offers state-of-the-art internet service at blazing speeds and unlimited data.

Viasat’s amazing technological advances are providing rural internet users with better performance and more reliability than ever before.

FAQs and TLDRs

What is Viasat?
Viasat (formerly Exede), is America’s top satellite internet provider. Based in Carlsbad, California, Viasat uses the latest in satellite technology to serve customers from all 50 states, parts of Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, as well as airplanes in the air and boats in the ocean, keeping them connected with reliable high-speed internet. Viasat reaches the many rural areas often left behind by land-based internet providers.

Is Viasat the same as Exede?
Yes, Exede changed its name to Viasat in 2017. Though the name was retired, Viasat continued to offer many of the same plans and services that were available under the name Exede, along with many new ones.

Does the name change affect existing Exede internet plans?
No! You will continue to receive the same services at the same price, just under a new name. Your speeds, data, and features will not be affected. Of course, the new name comes with some fancy new internet plans, so it might be worth considering an upgrade.

What happens to MyExede?
Your MyExede account has merged into the Viasat platform. You can go to account.viasat.com and log in with the same username and password that you used with MyExede.

Can I keep my Exede email address?
Yes, you can continue to use your exede.net email, but you will find it in a different location. You can access it by going to account.viasat.com.

Do new Viasat plans come with unlimited data?
Plans offered under Exede used the traditional model of data caps and overage fees. Accounts using these plans will continue to operate under this model.

However, new plans offered with the launch of the Viasat rebranding have done away with data caps and overage fees. The data is truly unlimited and will never run out or add surprises to your monthly bill.

This makes the internet experience much more worry-free. You can browse and stream all month long without worrying that your internet might suddenly get cut off right before submitting an important report for work. However, Viasat manages the unlimited data by limiting speeds after an account goes over its monthly data allowance. The internet connection will still be live, but speed priorities will be given to accounts that haven’t gone over yet. Your account will receive those speed priorities again as soon as your next billing cycle begins.

What internet speeds does Viasat offer?
Viasat offers several internet plans that range from 12 Mbps up to 100 Mbps, and 15 GB of prioritized data up to 300 GB of prioritized data. Business customers also have several plans to choose from, including both metered and unlimited plans, ranging from 35 Mbps up to 100 Mbps.
