The three deals most shoppers should look at
Roku Streaming Stick (HD): $19.99 (regularly $39.99)
Roku's entry-level stick streams up to 1080p, plugs straight into the TV's HDMI port and can run on power from the TV's USB port, so you don't need a wall outlet. It comes with a Roku Voice Remote that also handles TV power, volume and mute. If your bedroom or kitchen TV isn't 4K, this is the one to buy. At $19.99 it's half off at Roku.com. Amazon's marketplace listing currently starts at $29.99.
Roku Streaming Stick Plus: $34 (regularly $59.99)
The Plus is the same slim, TV-powered design with 4K and HDR10+ added. It also supports HLG. It's a simple upgrade for a 4K TV if you already like the Roku home screen. Amazon has it at $34.00, and Roku.com has it at $34.99.
Fire TV Stick 4K (2026 model): $29.99 (regularly $59.99)
Amazon's newest Fire TV Stick 4K streams 4K with HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG, supports Wi-Fi 6, comes with Amazon's redesigned Fire TV Remote and can draw power from your TV. It runs Amazon's newer Vega OS instead of the older Fire OS.
Make sure you're getting the new one. Amazon lists the 2026 Fire TV Stick 4K at a regular price of $59.99. Some deal roundups still say "$50 to $30," which matches the regular price of the older Fire TV Stick 4K. At $29.99 you're getting the newer model at half off. Older Fire OS models are still sold while supplies last, so check that the listing says "newest model."

Other streaming sticks on sale
- Fire TV Stick 4K Select ($17.99, regularly $49.99): The cheapest 4K stick on this list, with HDR10+. It runs Vega OS. The new Fire TV Stick 4K has replaced it, and what's left is on sale while supplies last.
- Fire TV Stick HD ($15.99, regularly $39.99): Amazon's cheapest stick, for HD TVs. It can be powered by the TV.
- Roku Streaming Stick 4K ($44.99, regularly $79.99): Adds Dolby Vision and a long-range Wi-Fi receiver for TVs far from the router.
- Fire TV Stick 4K Max ($44.99, regularly $84.99): Amazon's top stick, with Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, Wi-Fi 6E and 16GB of storage. It still runs Fire OS.
- Fire TV Stick 4K Plus ($37.99, regularly $69.99): A Fire OS model with Wi-Fi 6 and Dolby Vision. At this price the 4K Max is the better buy.
- Google TV Streamer ($149.99): We didn't find a discount at the Google Store. It's a set-top box rather than a stick, with Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, 32GB of storage and a built-in Ethernet port.
Want a set-top Roku instead of a stick? Roku Ultra is $99.99 on Roku.com (regularly $149.99) and adds Wi-Fi 6, Ethernet and Roku's rechargeable Voice Remote Pro.
Which streaming sticks work with DIRECTV and live TV apps?
DIRECTV's app supports Roku, Fire TV and Google TV devices, but Amazon's newer Vega OS sticks have a smaller app catalog than Fire OS models. Here's what to know before you buy.
| Device | Software | DIRECTV app | Other live TV apps |
|---|---|---|---|
| Roku Streaming Stick (HD), Streaming Stick Plus, Streaming Stick 4K | Roku OS | Supported (Roku devices on the latest Roku OS) | Big catalog. Search the Roku Channel Store for your service. |
| Fire TV Stick 4K (2026), Fire TV Stick 4K Select, Fire TV Stick HD (newest) | Vega OS | DIRECTV lists Fire TV devices on Vega OS 1.1 or later | Smaller, newer catalog and no sideloading. Make sure your live TV service is in the Amazon Appstore before you buy. |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Max, Fire TV Stick 4K Plus | Fire OS | Supported (Fire OS 5 or later) | Full Fire OS Appstore catalog |
| Google TV Streamer | Google TV | Supported on current software | Google Play catalog |
Device support can change, so check DIRECTV's supported-device list for your exact model. DIRECTV and Amazon are also adding DIRECTV channels to the Fire TV Live TV guide. How to pick the right stick
- Match the stick to the TV. On an HD TV, a 4K stick doesn't improve the picture, so buy an HD stick and save. On a 4K TV, start with the Fire TV Stick 4K or Roku Streaming Stick Plus.
- Stick with the menus you know. If the rest of the house uses Roku, another Roku keeps things simple. The same goes for Fire TV.
- Check your apps first. This matters most for Vega OS Fire TV sticks. If you rely on one live TV service, confirm it's available before you buy.
- Think about Wi-Fi. If the TV is far from the router, look at the Roku Streaming Stick 4K with its long-range receiver, or a Fire TV stick with Wi-Fi 6 or 6E.
- Need a whole new TV? Smart TVs are on sale too. See TVs on sale this month.
