The Fated Hour, the third episode of The Haunted Season, comes to Shudder on Tuesday, December 1, 2026. The Haunted Season is Shudder's yearly Christmas ghost story series from author and filmmaker Kier-La Janisse, with one new short film arriving each December and a different director on each episode.

See the Shudder Christmas horror guide and Joe Bob Conquers Christmas for more holiday viewing.

Check the current Shudder catalog for earlier installments and their availability in your region. This guide focuses on the announced third episode.

What The Fated Hour is about

It's set in Austria in 1810. On the eve of her wedding, Florentine tells her bridegroom the strange, melancholy story of her sister Seraphine's life and death, and of the dark legacy Seraphine left behind. Shudder and AMC Global Media haven't announced the episode's director or cast yet.

The announced third episode

AMC’s November/December programming calendar lists The Fated Hour under December 1. It identifies this as episode three. The calendar does not supply an exact release hour, cast or director for the episode, so those details are not inferred here.

The anthology follows the tradition of ghost stories for Christmas, with different directors handling individual installments.

How to watch with DIRECTV

A subscription to the linear AMC television channel does not itself establish access to Shudder’s streaming catalog. Confirm that the title is included in the specific streaming plan and region you use.

The Haunted Season streams on Shudder rather than on a TV channel, so you'll need a Shudder subscription or an AMC+ plan that includes Shudder. Watch in the Shudder or AMC+ app on a smart TV, streaming device, phone or tablet.

Shudder is owned by AMC Global Media, and AMC is channel 254 on DIRECTV. For the rest of Shudder's holiday lineup, see our guide to Christmas horror movies on Shudder, and three days later catch Joe Bob Conquers Christmas live on December 4.
