What is How to Ruin Diwali about?
Mmabatho Nkomo, a perfectionist played by Rosemary Zimu, is ready for the next step with her fiancé Varshen, played by Kyle Clark. Their families have never met, so the couple brings everyone together over Diwali weekend. Meeting Varshen's parents, Tarina and Sharm, goes sideways fast, and then Mmabatho's estranged parents, Penelope and Mandla, show up unannounced.
Things get worse when Mmabatho accidentally exposes her future father-in-law's secret affair. She sets out to fix the mess she started, which only makes the holiday weekend messier.
Who is in the cast?
Rosemary Zimu plays Mmabatho and Kyle Clark plays Varshen. Jailoshini Naidoo and Koobeshan Naidoo play Varshen's parents, Tarina and Sharm, while Sonia Mbele and Meshack Mavuso play Mmabatho's parents, Penelope and Mandla. Denise Zimba returns as Zama from How to Ruin Christmas, and the cast also includes Luthando BU Mthembu, Ashish Gangapersad, Kaseran Pillay, Quinton Madlala, Mishka Lockhart, Hermoine Reddy and Priya Bandu.
Rethabile and Katleho Ramaphakela created the series, with Johnny Barbuzano and Vivek Mehta directing. Gillian Breslin, Lihle Msimang, Vanishia Kisten and Bradley Katzen wrote it. Burnt Onion Productions made it with filmmaker Jayan Moodley, whose Kandasamys: The Baby and Meet the Khumalos are also on Netflix.
