What the new Baywatch is about

The reboot picks up with Hobie Buchannon, the son of David Hasselhoff's Mitch from the original series, now working as a Baywatch captain. He leads a new generation of lifeguards on the Southern California coast, where big rescues mix with romance, friendship and family drama. Hobie's life changes when his daughter, Charlie Vale, turns up at his door wanting to carry on the Buchannon family legacy.

The trailer shows the kind of large-scale rescues the original was known for, including a plane colliding with parasailers, a boat explosion and a deep-water emergency, along with plenty of slow-motion running on the sand.

Who is in the cast?

  • Stephen Amell as Hobie Buchannon
  • Jessica Belkin as Charlie Vale, Hobie's daughter
  • Hassie Harrison as Nat, a former foster kid and Olympic athlete
  • Shay Mitchell as Trina, a former lawyer turned full-time lifeguard
  • Thaddeus LaGrone as Brad, a former Marine
  • Noah Beck as Luke, a rookie lifeguard
  • Brooks Nader as Selene, captain of the Zuma Beach lifeguards

Mary McDonnell recurs as Hobie's mother, Gayle, and Livvy Dunne makes her acting debut as junior lifeguard Grace. Original cast members David Chokachi, Michael Bergin and Kelly Packard return as Cody Madison, J.D. Darius and April Giminski.

How to watch Baywatch on DIRECTV

If your DIRECTV package and market include your local FOX station, use that channel to watch at the scheduled local time or record the episode with your available DVR. Check your address-specific lineup first; local FOX availability and channel numbers vary. If you missed an episode, it lands on Hulu the next day. Our guide to whether Hulu is free with DIRECTV explains how that works, and our page on FOX One and DIRECTV covers FOX's own streaming app.

FOX also has a busy holiday season before Baywatch arrives, including Next Level Baker Season 2 starting November 19. To compare channel lineups, see our DIRECTV packages page or call American TV at 1-855-690-9884.
