What Tantara is about
Tantara is set in the rough-and-tumble Korean entertainment business from the 1960s through the 1980s and follows people who had little but chased big success anyway. Song Hye-kyo plays Min-ja, who survives an impoverished childhood by taking any job she can and works her way into the music business. Gong Yoo plays Dong-gu, her childhood friend, who fights alongside her to protect her dreams.
Kim Seol-hyun plays Min-hui, a bold singer with a captivating voice who becomes their very first artist, and who has had a love-hate relationship with Min-ja since they were kids. Cha Seung-won plays Seok Gil-yeo, the era's top hitmaker, who can turn a rookie into a star. Lee Hanee and Na Moon-hee are also in the cast. Netflix's date poster shows Min-ja and Dong-gu going from nightclub staff to rookie talent managers, with the story built around music.
