When Will The Social Reckoning Stream on Netflix? Our Release Timeline and How to Watch

Empty movie theater with rows of red velvet seats and a tub of popcorn on an armrest, lit by a hazy projector beam

The Social Reckoning doesn't have an announced streaming date yet. Our prediction is Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2026 on Netflix, 75 days after the theatrical opening. That's an estimate, not a confirmed date: neither Sony nor Netflix has announced one. Aaron Sorkin's companion film to The Social Network opens only in theaters on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026. Sony Pictures distributes it, so its first subscription streaming home in the U.S. will be Netflix, after the theatrical run and a digital rent-or-buy window. Based on how Sony has timed its 2025 and 2026 releases, we expect it on Netflix between about Dec. 22, 2026 and Jan. 9, 2027. Digital rental could come around mid-November. Neither Sony nor Netflix has announced either date.

Netflix's plans are $8.99 a month for Standard with ads, $19.99 for Standard and $26.99 for Premium with 4K, as of Oct 8, 2026. DIRECTV customers can put Netflix on their DIRECTV bill at the same prices.

Our streaming timeline estimate

Sony's films go to theaters first, then to digital rental and purchase on stores such as Prime Video and Apple TV, and then to Netflix under Sony's "Pay-1" deal, which gives Netflix the first subscription streaming window in the U.S. How fast that happens has varied. This table applies Sony's recent gaps to the Oct. 9 opening.

Netflix, slow end of the usual rangeAbout 120 days, the long end of the roughly 90 to 120 days Sony films have usually takenAbout Saturday, Feb. 6, 2027

Our prediction is Wednesday, Dec. 23, close to the 74-day pace, because a holiday arrival would give Netflix a big title for the week when most people have time off. The Streamable also predicts Dec. 23. Treat it as a forecast until Netflix confirms. A weak box office tends to speed things up and a strong one slows them down, so the first two weekends of ticket sales will tell you which end of the range to expect. We'll update this page when a date is announced.

Netflix prices come from Netflix's help center and DIRECTV's Netflix page and don't include taxes. Netflix says Standard with ads includes most, but not all, movies and shows. Titles that aren't included show a lock icon, and Netflix doesn't list in advance which new arrivals carry one.

Catch up on The Social Network first

The Social Network isn't on Netflix in the U.S. right now. On Oct 8, 2026, streaming guides listed it on MGM+ and free with ads on Tubi, and it can also be rented from the usual digital stores. On DIRECTV, MGM+ is a premium add-on on channel 558. Sony calls the new film a companion piece rather than a direct sequel, so you don't need the 2010 film to follow it. Still, the two make a natural double feature, and Jeremy Strong takes over the Zuckerberg role from Jesse Eisenberg.

What this means for DIRECTV customers

  • DIRECTV sells all three Netflix plans at Netflix's own prices. If you already have Netflix, you can link that account to your DIRECTV bill.
  • DIRECTV's current offer includes 12 months of Netflix Standard with Ads when you add a Genre Pack with a DIRECTV Gemini device, which leases for $10 a month. Details are in how to get Netflix free on DIRECTV.
  • Netflix comes preloaded on DIRECTV Gemini devices under Featured Apps.
  • Netflix recommends at least 5 Mbps for 1080p and 15 Mbps for 4K. Our speed test takes about a minute.
