ABC is typically channel 7 on DISH. ABC is owned by The Walt Disney Co., as are other channels including ESPN, FX, Nat Geo and the Disney channel. After a brief interruption in the fall of 2022, they’re all back on for satellite TV from Dish Network as well as Sling TV, the streaming service Dish Network owns.

According to coverage in The Hollywood Reporter, there had been what the industry refers to as a “carriage dispute,” in the fall of 2022. Generally, this describes negotiations over how the content creator, in this case Disney, would be compensated by the entity that distributes the content to its customers, in this case Dish Network and Sling TV streaming. When content creators increase their fees for providing content the distribution platform may challenge it so that it won’t have to pass these increases along to subscribers. Negotiations had been ongoing for months by the time the content was pulled. The parties then resolved their differences but not before an executive at Dish Network called Disney greedy. For its part, Dish Network is also known as a tough negotiator. However, after a brief absence from Dish Network, the Disney channels returned to Dish Network and Sling TV.
