MCI (formerly MCI Communications, Inc., and originally The Mobile Communications Corporation of America) is an American telecommunications company and subsidiary of business communications service provider Verizon Business. Established in 1968, MCI grew rapidly and, as of 2005, had an overall customer base of 23 million, making it one of the oldest and most popular telecommunications providers in the United States.
At its inception, MCI provided long-distance voice services to a small government contractor/research lab in California. In the years since, MCI services have evolved to encompass a wide range of services, including Internet, television, phone, voice services, and international networks.
MCI has coverage in more than 70 countries and over 650 cities worldwide. The company maintains an extensive network, allowing users to access its services in any major market within the United States. It is also known for itshigh-speed, reliable data networks.
