What is Death Valley about?
Timothy Spall plays John Chapel, a retired actor who once starred as a TV detective, and Gwyneth Keyworth plays Janie Mallowan, the Welsh police officer who lets him help solve murders in the hills and coastal towns of mid Wales. The odd couple's knack for closing cases is what drives the show's mix of mystery and comedy.
What happens in Season 2?
Their clear-up rate has earned Janie her long-wanted promotion to detective inspector, and John is now Mid Wales Police's official civilian consultant. Janie isn't happy in the new job, though. Health and safety briefings, strategy meetings and the arrival of her charming but unreliable estranged father, Michael, push her to question her choices.
Meanwhile, a murder on the set of an epic fantasy production in the style of Game of Thrones reignites John's love of acting, and he wonders about a comeback. Their friendship is still fragile after John's relationship with Yvonne, Janie's mother. The first case of the season has the pair working out who killed a man in a castle.
Who is in the cast?
Timothy Spall and Gwyneth Keyworth return with Alexandria Riley as Helen Baxter, Steffan Rhodri as DCI Barry Clarke, Melanie Walters as Yvonne Mallowan and Rithvik Andugula as DC Evan Chaudhry. Guest stars include Owen Teale, Hammed Animashaun, Alexandra Roach and Mark Lewis Jones.
Paul Doolan created and writes the series, with episode writers Sian Harries, Ian Jarvis and Nina Metivier. Simon Hynd and Claire Winyard direct Season 2, and Nikki Wilson produces.
