The 2026-27 College Football Playoff first round takes place December 18-19, 2026, with four games split among ESPN, ABC, TNT, truTV and HBO Max. Friday's game begins at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN. Saturday has games at noon, 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. ET. Teams and campus sites remain pending at this November 3 review.

The CFP's official broadcast announcement assigns all four first-round games to campus sites, to be announced on Selection Day, Sunday, December 6. Do not fill those slots with prior-season teams or assume that an early ranking fixes a school's final seed, opponent or kickoff window.

Build a four-game DIRECTV viewing plan

Check the networks for each window rather than searching only for a generic playoff program. DIRECTV lists ESPN on channel 206. ABC uses the local station number for your market. Find TNT and truTV by name in your own guide and confirm inclusion in the actual package you use.

Our guides for ESPN, local ABC, TNT and truTV provide related channel checks. A package including one required network does not automatically establish access to every game in the round.

Keep streaming entitlements separate

The CFP announcement says ESPN-network games will be available through the ESPN App and that the two Saturday TNT/truTV first-round games will also stream on HBO Max. Check the specific game listing and the account, subscription and device conditions for the option you intend to use.

This guide does not promise that every DIRECTV customer has an identical app entitlement or that a separately purchased streaming plan includes every network. Confirm live-game access before kickoff. No unverified plan price, trial duration or free-viewing promise is quoted.

Make reminders after the matchups are set

The table uses Eastern time throughout. For example, Friday's 8 p.m. Eastern game is 5 p.m. Pacific. Put each selected game into your own time zone and inspect the guide after the teams and sites are announced. Keep December 18-19 distinct from the prior season's December dates.

If recording, select each actual matchup and review the recording options supported by your service. A reminder alone does not record a game. Save the schedule, then revisit it before the opening weekend for any official changes. The CFP rankings-show guide covers the separate selection and rankings broadcasts.
