How the Bearcats and Mountaineers got here
Cincinnati started 4-0 and received votes in the AP poll before a 34-7 loss at Arizona on Oct. 3. The Bearcats used last weekend as their only bye of 2026 and return to action at 4-1 and 1-1 in the Big 12 under coach Scott Satterfield.
West Virginia opened 3-0, including a win over then-No. 25 Virginia in Charlotte, then dropped three straight Big 12 games to Oklahoma State, Iowa State and Arizona. The Mountaineers sit at 3-3 and 0-3 in league play under coach Rich Rodriguez heading into Homecoming against Cincinnati.
Saturday is the third meeting between the schools as Big 12 foes after they met annually from 2005 to 2011 in the Big East. West Virginia leads the all-time series 18-3-1. Both teams lean on strong rushing attacks: WVU ranks among the national leaders in rushing yards per game, and Cincinnati ranks in the top tier of the Big 12 on the ground.
