How to Add a Profile on Prime Video
By American TV editorial team |
Prime Video supports up to six profiles on one Amazon account: the default profile plus five additional adult or Kids profiles. To add one, open the active profile menu and choose the option to add a new profile. Give it a name, select any appropriate Kids setting and save it.
If you watch through a streaming device, see our Gemini and streaming-app guide. Prime Video also has a separate free-channel lineup; a profile is a way to organize viewing, not a new subscription.
Add a profile on the Prime Video website
- Sign in to the Amazon account you use for Prime Video.
- On the Prime Video home page, open the menu for the currently active profile. Amazon's website instructions describe hovering over its icon.
- Select +Add new.
- Enter a profile name and follow the prompts, including whether it is a Kids profile.
- Save the profile and select it before starting a program.
If the page looks different, use Amazon's current help for the device and region you are using. Avoid changing the account owner or creating a second paid account merely to add another household viewing profile.
Use the mobile app
Amazon's iOS, Android and Fire tablet instructions also begin with the active profile icon or profile selector. Open that menu, choose the add-new option, enter the requested details and save. App layouts can change, so update the app and check its help if the button is missing. Creating the profile on the website is another way to check whether the account has reached its profile limit.
Edit or remove a profile
On the website, choose Manage profiles, then Edit profile and select the profile to change. Amazon says this screen also provides options to remove profiles, set an account or profile PIN and set up profile lock. Read the confirmation carefully before removing anything, especially if several people use the account.
Kids settings and profile locks
Review the Kids-profile and PIN controls for the actual device used by your child. Do not assume that naming a profile after a child applies every restriction you want. Check the controls, switch profiles and confirm how playback and purchases are handled before handing over the remote.
If you cannot add another profile
Count the existing profiles, including the default one. The six-profile allowance does not mean six additional profiles. If the account is full, review the existing profiles with the people who use them before editing or removing one. Also confirm that the app is signed in to the intended Amazon account; a similarly named profile on a different account does not change this account's limit.
A profile is separate from the service's rules for simultaneous playback, paid channels, rentals and purchases. Check those terms in Prime Video before expecting another profile to provide additional viewing rights. For help comparing TV and streaming-device options, call 1-855-690-9884.
