• Entertainment: $69.99/month – Entry-level option, best for general entertainment, includes 165+ channels.
• Choice: $84.99/month – Adds access to regional sports networks and expands to 200+ channels.

What You Get with Each Tier

The Entertainment plan covers the essentials: national broadcast networks, ESPN, CNN, Nickelodeon, and more. It's a solid pick for casual viewers. Choice steps it up with regional sports, including Bally Sports Sun and Florida-focused coverage, plus AMC+, IFC, and Bloomberg TV. Ultimate leans into premium content with a wider variety of film, sports, and kids programming. Premier goes full spectrum, bundling in all premium movie networks and exclusive sports content like NFL Sunday Ticket (when available during select promos).

Hidden Fees and Monthly Add-ons

• Regional Sports Fee: $15.99/month for most Choice, Ultimate, and Premier subscribers in Lakeland — non-negotiable if the package includes regional sports access.
• Advanced Receiver Service: $15/month covers the cost of HD DVR functionality with Genie.
• Additional TV Receivers: $7/month per device beyond the first.
• Autopay and Paperless Billing Discount: Subtract $5/month if enrolled.

Although the sticker price may look straightforward, these added costs push total bills higher. For example, a household with the Choice package and two receivers pays approximately $122.98 per month — not including taxes or premium add-ons. For larger households or those wanting full access to premium content, Premier pricing with fees regularly exceeds $185/month.

Looking for the best value? Ask yourself how many channels you actually watch. Bundles with more than 300 channels sound impressive, but only make sense if you regularly watch premium content or require expansive sports coverage for teams across multiple regions.

Step-by-Step Installation Process

DIRECTV handles professional installation for all new satellite service customers in Lakeland, and appointments typically take place within a few days of signup. Here’s how the process unfolds from first contact to final setup:

• Appointment Scheduling: After subscription confirmation, customers receive an installation window—typically a 4-hour block—based on availability in the 33801–33815 ZIP code areas.
• Site Survey: On arrival, the technician conducts a site assessment to determine optimal satellite dish placement, typically requiring unobstructed southern exposure.
• Mounting the Satellite Dish: The installer mounts the slim-line satellite dish on one of three locations: roof, exterior wall, or pole-mount in the yard, depending on line-of-sight considerations.
• Cabling & Interior Setup: Coaxial cable lines run from the dish into the home to connect the Genie DVR and other receivers. Walls may be drilled if necessary to complete clean routing.
• Device Activation & Walkthrough: Once connected, the system is activated and the technician provides a functional walkthrough of the interface, remote use, and DVR features.

Equipment Provided with New Subscriptions

DIRECTV supplies all core hardware necessary for service as part of its installation package. Included components in Lakeland for 2025 subscribers are:

• Satellite Dish: Next-generation Slimline dish capable of accessing the full HD and 4K UHD channel spectrum, optimized for Florida’s climate and signal strength.
• Genie HD DVR: Allows recording of up to 5 shows simultaneously and storage of over 200 HD hours. Also enables Whole-Home DVR with connection to GENIE Mini units.
• Remote Controls: Voice-capable remotes included for each connected room, fully paired with Genie main and mini receivers.

Average Installation Time & Preparation Tips

The full installation process takes roughly 2 to 3 hours, assuming standard home configuration. To facilitate faster installation, customers should:

• Ensure someone 18 years or older is present during the entire appointment window.
• Clear pathways near TVs and satellite dish mount areas for easy access.
• Identify power outlets and home Wi-Fi credentials (for Genie networking features).

Equipment Rental and Ownership Details

DIRECTV retains ownership of all equipment provided during installation. Customers pay a monthly fee to lease the devices; in Lakeland, this averages around $7 per receiver per month. The Genie HD DVR is included with most core packages without an extra fee, but additional room connections through Genie Mini units may increase monthly rental cost.

Watch Lakeland’s Favorite Teams with DIRECTV Local Sports and Regional Coverage

Dedicated Access to Florida Sports Teams

DIRECTV delivers broad coverage for fans in Lakeland eager to follow their Florida teams. With localized programming and access to dedicated sports networks, subscribers stay connected to every pivotal moment of the season. Whether it’s the Tampa Bay Buccaneers punching through defenses in the fall or the Tampa Bay Rays making clutch plays during summer homestands, DIRECTV packages offer extensive in-market game broadcasts.

Subscribers in Lakeland enjoy consistent coverage of regional fan favorites:

• Tampa Bay Buccaneers games appear regularly thanks to affiliate agreements with FOX and CBS, which carry most Sunday matchups.
• Orlando Magic games are shown via Bally Sports Florida, included in Choice and above packages.
• Tampa Bay Rays games are also broadcast on Bally Sports Sun, giving MLB fans hundreds of hours of live game content and pre/post-game analysis.

Regional Sports Networks in Premium Plans

Higher-tier DIRECTV packages unlock crucial Regional Sports Networks (RSNs), which carry exclusive local coverage and commentary tailored for Florida audiences. These RSNs include Bally Sports Sun and Bally Sports Florida, both of which cover a wide range of professional and collegiate athletics tied to the state.

DIRECTV’s Choice package and above guarantees access to these RSNs, making it a necessary selection for fans seeking full-season coverage with localized analysis, locker room interviews, and behind-the-scenes programming. Lower-tier packages skip most RSNs, so sports enthusiasts often consider upgrading for uninterrupted access.

National Sports Coverage to Complement Local Access

In addition to local teams, DIRECTV builds a well-rounded experience through comprehensive national sports programming. Available with featured packages:

• NFL Sunday Ticket – exclusive to DIRECTV satellite users, this premium add-on broadcasts every out-of-market Sunday game during the season.
• MLB Network – delivers 24/7 baseball coverage including spring training, regular season, and post-season analysis.
• NBA TV – offers live games, in-depth stats, and expert studio commentary, supplementing local broadcasts of Magic games.

For Lakeland's sports audience, the combination of in-market team access, regional coverage via Bally RSNs, and national broadcasts from industry-leading networks creates a seamless year-round viewing calendar. Every play, every inning, every quarter—delivered directly to your screen in HD.
